Getting Started With Installation

How do I install Eastlink Internet Security Services on my PC?

If installing for the first time, click the Activate Now link found in the Install your Eastlink Internet Security Services email you received. If you are looking to install on additional devices go to: Eastlink Internet Security Portal and login with your account username/email and password. If you don't remember your password select Forgot Password to receive an email allowing you reset the password.

Once logged in, click Add device. The Whose device do you want to protect? window appears.
Make sure My device is selected, and click Continue. The Choose device type window appears.
Make sure This computer is selected, and click Download for Windows.
Depending on your browser:
The installer file downloads automatically; or
You are asked to save the file. If prompted, click Save File.
Press Ctrl+J on your keyboard to open the download folder and find the file.
Click on the installer file (for example, F-Secure-Safe-Network-Installer_xxxxxxxxxxxxx_.exe) to run the installer. If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes. Set-up takes place.
Click Continue when you see Welcome to SAFE.
Click Accept and install to start the installation. If you want to contribute anonymous security data to F-Secure's Security Cloud, leave the box ticked.

How do I install Eastlink Internet Security Services on my MAC?

If installing for the first time, click the Activate Now link found in the Install your Eastlink Internet Security Services email you received. If you are looking to install on additional devices go to: Eastlink Internet Security Portal and login with your account username/email and password. If you don't remember your password select Forgot Password to receive an email allowing you reset the password.

Once logged in, click/tap Add device. The Whose device do you want to protect? window appears.
Make sure My device is selected, and click/tap Continue. The Choose device type window appears.
Make sure This computer is selected, and click Download for Mac.
Depending on your browser:
The installer file downloads automatically; or
You are asked to save the file. If prompted, click Save File.
When the download is done, open your download folder and run the installer. The setup wizard appears.
On the Install F-Secure SAFE Introduction page, click Continue.
Select for whom you'd like to install F-Secure SAFE, and click Continue.
On the Installation Type page, click Install. You may be required to enter your administrator password. Type in your administrator password and click Install software.
On the Activate window, click Continue to activate. Type in your administrator password again to allow F-Secure to make some changes.
F-Secure SAFE prompts you to install Browsing Protection. Select your internet browser from the drop down menu, and click Install now.

As the installation process may vary from browser to browser, follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Browsing Protection installation.

How do I install Eastlink Internet Security Services on my iPad or iPhone?

If installing for the first time, click the Activate Now link found in the Install your Eastlink Internet Security Services email you received. If you are looking to install on additional devices go to: Eastlink Internet Security Portal and login with your account username/email and password. If you don't remember your password select Forgot Password to receive an email allowing you reset the password.

On your iOS device, you should be taken to the App Store, and to the Eastlink Internet Security Services app.
Tap Get or the Cloud icon.
Tap Install.
Once done, tap Open or to begin the set-up.
Tap Accept to accept the terms and conditions. Leave the second box ticked, if you want to allow the app to collect anonymous data to improve the service.
Tap Log in, and type in your Eastlink Internet Security Services credentials.
Select Me, [your name] to protect your own device, or select My child if installing on a child's device.
Tap Continue.
Tap Allow in the Eastlink Internet Security Services would like to send you notifications window.
Tap Always Allow in the Allow Eastlink Internet Security Services to access your location window.
Tap Finish.

How do I install Eastlink Internet Security Services on my Android device?

On your Android device, you should be taken to the Play Store, and to the Eastlink Internet Security Services app.
Tap Install.
Once done, tap Open to start the set-up.

Do the following:
In the Allow Eastlink Internet Security Services to make and manage phone calls window, tap Allow;
In the Allow Eastlink Internet Security Services to access photos and media window, tap Allow;
In the Allow Eastlink Internet Security Services to access device's location? window, tap Allow.
Tap Log in, and type in your Eastlink Internet Security Services credentials. If you don’t have valid Eastlink Internet Security Services, tap Create account to create an account.
Select Me, [your name] to protect your own device, or select My child to set up a child's device.
Tap Continue. The overview of protection features available with your account appear.
Tap Finish.

How do I open the software program on my PC?

There are two ways to open the software:
From the Windows system tray:
Double-click the Eastlink icon, the software always opens in the Home tab.

From the Windows Start menu:
Choose > Eastlink Internet Security Services > Open Eastlink Internet Security Services.

How do I open the software program on my MAC?

There are two ways to open the software:
From the MAC system tray:
Click the Eastlink icon and choose Open Internet Security Services

From the Go menu:
Choose > Application > Eastlink Internet Security Services (Double Click) > Internet Security Services (Double Click).

What is the Status section (PC)?

The Status section provides you access to:
Current state of protection
Last successful update
Provides access to running a virus scan

Included Settings:
Virus Protection – Real time scanning removes harmful files from your computer or puts them to quarantine
DeepGuard – Makes sure that you use only safe applications. The safety of an application is verified from the trusted cloud service
Firewall – Allows only safe internet connections and blocks intruders from accessing your computer
Spam Filtering – Spam and Phishing filtering, blocks mass advertisements and deceitful emails
Manual Scanning – you can optimize how the manual scanning scans your computer for viruses and other harmful applications

Database Updates – the protection of your computer is updated automatically. This shows the latest update times and versions.

Does Eastlink Internet Security Services have a built-in firewall?

Eastlink Internet Security Services uses the Windows Firewall for basic functionality, while additionally providing the following security services:
Blocking download of exploits and other harmful files

Each downloaded file is scanned and all harmful files are blocked automatically

Preventing suspicious applications from accessing the Internet. If the safety of an application cannot be verified, DeepGuard starts to monitor its behavior.

Based on the behavior analysis, DeepGuard will either allow or deny the network access or it asks the user whether to permit the access or not

Browser manipulation detection. DeepGuard detects if malware is trying to manipulate user’s browser and prevents the attempt

How do I allow an application to access my computer through the firewall?

Some applications may require you to allow them access through the firewall in order to work properly. The product uses the Windows Firewall to protect your computer.

To change Windows Firewall settings:
Open Eastlink Internet Security Services
Select Tools
Click Windows Firewall settings
Click Allow an App or Feature through Windows Firewall

How can I allow all network traffic temporarily (PC)?

By turning off the firewall, you allow all network traffic.

Warning: We recommend that you keep the firewall turned on, always. If you turn off the firewall, your computer is vulnerable to network attacks. If an application stops working because it cannot connect to the Internet, change the firewall settings instead of turning off the firewall.

To turn the firewall on or off:
Open Eastlink Internet Security Services. This will trigger a launch pad at the bottom of the screen
Select Computer Security
On the main page of Computer Security, click Status
Click Change settings
Note: You need administrative rights to turn off security features
Select Firewall in the left margin
Click the corresponding slider to turn the firewall on or off

How can I allow all network traffic temporarily (MAC)?

By turning off the firewall, you allow all network traffic.

How can I allow an application that DeepGuard has blocked?

Sometimes DeepGuard may block a safe application from running, even if you know it to be safe. If this occurs:
Open Eastlink Internet Security Services
Click Settings
Select DeepGuard
Click Change Application Permissions
Find the application that you want to allow
Click Details once the item is highlighted
Note: You can click column headings to sort the list. For example, click the Permission column to sort the list into groups of allowed and denied programs.
Select Allow under Permission.
Click OK
Click Close
DeepGuard now allows the application to make system changes again.

How can I turn off the safety ratings for web sites?

Open Eastlink Internet Security Services and click Online Safety
Click Users and select the user whose online safety features you want to edit
Click the Browsing protection settings link. The Browsing protection settings window is displayed
Clear the check boxes under Show the reputation rating for websites in search results and click OK

Browsing and Banking Protection

How do I turn my Banking Protection on and off with my PC?

Open Eastlink Internet Security Services
Click Settings
Select the Banking protection tab on the left pane, and slide the slider to the on or off position
Click OK to apply

How do I turn my Banking Protection on and off with my MAC?

Open Eastlink Internet Security Services
Click Preferences
Select the Browsing protection tab
Click the lock at the bottom of the window to make changes
Enter your administrator password to allow System Preferences to make changes, and click OK
Check or uncheck the Turn on Banking Protection box
Click the lock to apply

Virus Protection and Scanning

How do I exclude a file or folder from scanning?

Sometimes you may want to exclude a file or folder from the scan. Excluded items are not scanned unless you remove them from the excluded items list.
Note: Scheduled scanning uses the same settings as the manual scanning.
Open Eastlink Internet Security Services
Select Tools
From the drop down list under Virus Scan Options choose Change Scanning Settings
Click the Exclude files from the scan link. The Exclude from scanning dialog box is displayed
Depending on what you want to exclude from scanning, do one of the following:

To exclude a file, drive, or folder:
Select the Objects tab
Select the Exclude objects (files, folders…) check box
Click Add
Select the file, drive, or folder that you want to exclude from virus scanning
Note: Some drives may be removable drives, such as CD, DVD or network drives. Network drives and empty removable drives cannot be excluded.
Click OK to close the Exclude from scanning dialog box

To exclude a specific file type:
Select the File Types tab
Select the Exclude files with these extensions check box
Type the file extension (do not include the ‘.’ ie (pdf, doc), which identifies the type of files you want to exclude, in the field next to the Add button
Click Add
Repeat the steps 3 and 4 for any other extension you want to exclude from scanning
Click OK to close the Exclude from scanning dialog box
Note: Some files cannot be excluded and will always be scanned, such as executable files.

How can I exclude an application from scanning?

Applications can only be added to the exclusion list if the scan flags that this application is suspicious. You will be presented with an option to exclude it when this occurs. If the application behaves like a virus or other malicious software you will not be presented with the option to exclude it.

To manage the applications that are excluded from scanning:
Open Eastlink Internet Security Services
Select Tools
From the drop down list under Virus Scan Options choose Change Scanning Settings
Click the Exclude files from the scan link. The Exclude from scanning dialog box is displayed.

To view/remove currently excluded applications:
Select the Applications tab
Choose application to be removed, click Remove

How can I prevent applications from downloading harmful files?

You can prevent applications on your computer from downloading harmful files from the Internet.

Some web sites contain exploits and other harmful files that may harm your computer. With advanced network protection, you can help prevent any application from downloading harmful files before they reach your computer.

To block any application from downloading harmful files:
Open Eastlink Internet Security Services. This will trigger a launch pad menu at the bottom of the screen
On the main page of Computer Security, click Settings
Note: You need administrative rights to change the settings
Select Computer Security > Firewall
Select Do not allow applications to download harmful files
Note: This setting is effective even if you turn off the firewall

How can I clean malware from the Recycle Bin (PC)?

The Eastlink Internet Security Services product may detect infected files inside the Recycle Bin. The Recycle Bin is used to store files that the user has deleted.

To remove the infected files, you need to empty Recycle Bin:
Double-click the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop
From the File menu, select Empty Recycle Bin
Click OK

How can I clean malware from the Trash (MAC)?

The Eastlink Internet Security Services product may detect infected files inside the Trash. The Trash is used to store files that the user has deleted.

To remove the infected files, you need to empty the Trash:
Go to Finder
From the Finder menu, select Empty Trash
Click OK

What can I do if the virus definitions are out of date (PC)?

If the Eastlink Internet Security Services product indicates that the virus definitions are out of date, try the following:
Check that the Windows date and time are correct because incorrect settings can cause the product to report that your virus definitions are out of date even though this is not the case.
Note: You can see the date and time in the Windows system tray. You can change the clock settings in the Date and Time Properties. To open the properties, double-click the clock.    

If the clock/date is correct or if updating did not help:
Right-click the Eastlink Internet Security Services icon in the system tray and select Check for updates
Right-click the Eastlink Internet Security Services icon in the system tray and select Open common settings. In the Subscription keys tab you can check the status of your subscription

If the above actions do not help, we recommend that you uninstall the product and then reinstall it.

What can I do if the virus definitions are out of date (MAC)?

If the Eastlink Internet Security Services product indicates that the virus definitions are out of date, try the following:
Check that the MAC date and time are correct because incorrect settings can cause the product to report that your virus definitions are out of date even though this is not the case.

Should I manually scan my hard disks daily?

It is not necessary to scan your hard drive manually as long as you have set up scheduled scanning. Virus and spyware scanning includes real-time scanning.

Note: Scanning for malware is an intensive process. It requires the full power of your computer and takes some time to complete. For this reason, you might want to set the program to scan your computer when you are not using it. Subsequent scans will be faster as they only scan for changes made since the previous scan.

How do I set up a scheduled scan?

You can set the program to scan your computer at regular times, for example, weekly, daily, or monthly.

To set up a scheduled scan:

Open Eastlink Internet Security Services and click Computer Security
On the main page of Computer Security, click Settings
Select Other settings > Scheduled scanning
Select Turn on scheduled scanning
Select which days you would like to scan for viruses and spyware regularly
Select the time when you want to start the scan on the selected days
Click OK

Family Protection

How do I use Family Rules to limit my child’s time on their device?

You can limit the time your child can use the device in two ways: Device use limits and Bedtime.
Note: Time limits rules apply to:
Android: all apps except preinstalled ones
iPhone and iPad: web browsing with Eastlink Internet Security Services
Windows: all use of the device

To set Time Limits:
Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password.
Go to the SAFE tab on the top navigation bar.
Click/tap on the user, and then select the corresponding device.
Click/tap on Family Rules.
Go to the Time limits tab, and slide the slider to the right to activate the feature.
To set daily device use limits, click/tap the Device Use Limits Edit button.
Use the sliders to select the desired time length for weekdays and weekends
Click/tap Save to apply.

To prevent all use of the device at a specific time frame:
Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password.
Go to the SAFE tab on the top navigation bar.
Click/tap on the user, and then select the corresponding device.
Click/tap on Family Rules.
Click/tap the Bedtime Edit button.
Slide the relevant sliders to the right to activate, and set the desired time frame.
Click/tap Save to apply.

How do I use Family Rules to block web pages by their type of content?

Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password.
Go to the SAFE tab on the top navigation bar.
Click/tap on the user, and then select the corresponding device.
Click/tap on Family Rules.
Go to the Content filtering tab, and slide the slider to the right to activate the feature.
Click/tap on the Edit icon.
Select the checkboxes next to the content categories you wish to block for this user and device.
Click/tap Save to apply.
Note: Content filtering is enabled on the Safe Browser on Android and iOS.

How to overcome the iOS limitation on Family Rules time limit feature?

You can use Restrictions to block or limit specific apps and features on your iPhone/iPad:
On your iPhone/iPad, tap Settings > General > Restrictions.
Tap Enable Restrictions.
Set a restriction passcode. Use passcode that your children do not know.
Disable other Internet browsers and the Installing Apps option.

Now your children are protected against unsuitable content. They cannot bypass the browsing protection by installing or using other Internet browsers other than Eastlink Internet Security Services.

How do I use Eastlink Internet Security Services to protect my child's PC?

To protect your child's PC:
Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password.
Once logged in, click/tap Add device. The Whose device do you want to protect? window appears.
Select My child's device, and click/tap Continue. The Choose device type window appears.
Make sure This computer is selected, and click Download for Windows.
While still in your Internet browser, find the network installer from your download folder by pressing Ctrl + J on your keyboard.
Run the network installer file. The Eastlink Internet Security Services Setup starts:
Once the Welcome to Eastlink Internet Security Services window opens, click Continue.
Enter the name of the child whose PC you are going to protect and for whom you are going to set up Family Rules.
Select the age group to which the child belongs and click Next.
To set up time limits and content filtering for the child, click Next.
To set the daily limits for device use, click first the Edit button and select then the allowed daily use for both weekdays and weekends. Finally, click Save to save the settings.
To prevent device use during night-time, click the Edit button and set the bedtimes for school nights and weekends. Finally, click Save to save the bedtime settings and click Next.
Select the types of web content that you want to block from the child and click Next.
Click Accept and install.

The installation process begins and all you have to do now is to simply allow the installation to complete. This should take less than a minute.  

Eastlink Internet Security Services is now installed on your child's PC and the child's Internet use is protected according to your setup.

To view the Family Rules settings for the child, click the Family Rules tab on the left of the Safe Home main page.

Later, if you want to make changes to these Family Rules settings, log in to your account and click on the child's profile to view and change the Family Rules settings.

How do I use Eastlink Internet Security Services to protect my child's Android device?

On your PC:
Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password.
Once you're logged in, click Add device.
Select My child's device and click Continue.
If you are creating a new profile, click on the drop-down arrow, and select New child profile. Click Continue.
Select Phone from the device type options, and click Continue.
Choose how you want to send the installation link to your child's Android device.
Send By Email:
Enter an email address that you can access from your child's Android device. Click Send.
Send by SMS:
Enter your child's phone number with the country code. Click Send.
On your child's Android device:     
Now on your child's Android device, open the email or SMS containing the installation link. Tap on the provided link.      
Tap Install from app store.
On the Eastlink Internet Security Services Google Play Store page, tap Install > Accept.
Tap Open.
Read and accept the terms and conditions. Tap Accept.
On the Welcome to SAFE screen, tap Continue.
Create a new profile for your child. Enter the name and select the age group.
Now is a good time to sit down with your child and go over Family Rules together.
Tap Next.

App control:
App Control lets you view installed apps remotely via your Eastlink Internet Security Portal and choose whether the apps should be time-limited, allowed, or blocked completely. Time-limited apps will be blocked when the time limit is up, which we will configure later.
Tap Turn on App control.
Choose the default setting for newly installed apps (Time-limited or Blocked).
Choose how you want to limit individual installed app (Time-limited, Allowed or Blocked).
Tap Next.

Time limits:

Time limits allow you to control when and for how long your child can use the time-limited apps.
To set the daily use limits, tap Edit (pencil icon) and slide the slider to the desired time length for weekdays and weekends. Once done, tap the Tick icon to save the settings.
To set bedtime (prevent device use during night-time), tap Edit (pencil icon) and specify the time frame for school nights and weekends. Once done, tap the Tick icon.
Tap Next.

Content filtering:
Content filtering blocks certain types of website content when browsing with the Safe Browser.
Select by checking the boxes the content categories you want to block for your child.
Tap Next.
The protection feature overview page opens. Tap Next.
The Family Rules feature needs device administrator permission to protect your child from harmful content. Tap Continue.
Tap Activate this device administrator.
Turn on accessibility, tap Continue.
Select Eastlink Internet Security Services from the Services Accessibility list, and move the slider to the On position.
To allow F-Secure SAFE to observe actions and retrieve window content, tap OK. You may be prompted to enter the device PIN to continue.

Eastlink Internet Security Services is now installed on your child's Android device and the child's Internet use is protected according to your setup.

To view the Family Rules settings for the child, tap Family Rules from the app's main screen.

Later, if you want to make changes to these Family Rules settings, on any device, log in to your account and click on the child's profile to view and change the Family Rules settings.

What does the Online Safety section (Parental Controls) include?

The Online Safety section provides you access to:
Browsing protection – blocks harmful websites to ensure the safety of your computer and personal data
Content Blocker – block websites based on their content or allow access to specific websites only
Search result filter
 – hides adult content from search results by making sure that Google, Yahoo & Bing use the safe search "Strict" level
Browsing Time Limits – you can limit the daily use of the device and choose when the time limit is reached, whether to lock the device or block browsing only
Browser extensions – plugin applications that ensure your security while browsing
Statistics – here you can see how this user has been protected.

What is Online Safety?

In addition to protecting you against malicious software and websites, you can restrict the type of content that can be viewed by your children. You can also control when and for how long someone is allowed to browse the Internet.

The product uses Windows user accounts to control the settings for each member of your family. Only someone with administrative access rights is allowed to change the product settings for the various Windows user accounts.

We recommend that you set up a separate Windows user account for each family member. For example, parents can have administrative access rights, and children can have normal access rights for their Windows user accounts.

How do I locate my device with Eastlink Internet Security Services?

Note: The Find my device setting must be enabled on your device for it to work. This setting is disabled by default. Turning this feature on requires Eastlink Internet Security Services to have device administrator permissions.

Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password from another computer or device.
On the Eastlink Internet Security Portal page, find the device you want to lock from under your circle.
Click or tap the device icon. This brings up a window with basic details pertaining to that device.
Click or tap Finder.
In the Finder window, the devices last known location will display on the map.
Click or tap Locate to refresh the devices location.

How do I sound a locator alarm on my device with Eastlink Internet Security Services?

If you have misplaced your device, you can sound an alarm remotely from the Safe Home Portal to help you locate your missing Eastlink Internet Security Services - protected device.
Note: The Play alarm on device setting must be enabled on your device for it to work. This setting is switched on by default.

Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password from another computer or device.
On the Eastlink Internet Security Portal page find the device that you want to play an alarm on under your circle.
Click or tap on the device icon. This brings up a window with basic details pertaining to that device.
Click or tap Finder.
In the Finder window, click or tap Alarm.
To activate the alarm, click or tap on the blue Alarm button. It may take up to a few minutes before the alarm starts.

Once you are able to find your missing device, you can stop the alarm by simply unlocking the device.

How do I lock or unlock my device with Eastlink Internet Security Services?

Note: This feature is available only for Eastlink Internet Security Services for Android. The Lock/Wipe device setting must be enabled on your device for it to work. This setting is disabled by default. Turning this feature on requires Eastlink Internet Security Services to have device administrator permissions.

Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password from another computer or device.
On the Eastlink Internet Security Portal page, find the device you want to lock from under your circle.
Click or tap the device icon. This brings up a window with basic details pertaining to that device.
Click or tap Finder.
In the Finder window, click or tap Lock.
To lock your device, click or tap the blue Lock button. It may take up to a few minutes before your device is remotely locked.
Your device can be unlocked by simply unlocking it normally on the device, or similarly via Eastlink Internet Security Services remotely.

Note: Unlocking a device via Eastlink Internet Security Services resets your security code. This means that your device will no longer have the screen lock enabled. After unlocking a device, remember to manually enable the screen lock function on the device again.

How do I wipe all data from my device with My Eastlink Internet Security Services?

Note: This feature is available only for Eastlink Internet Security Services for Android. The Lock/Wipe device setting must be enabled on your device for it to work. This setting is disabled by default. Turning this feature on requires Eastlink Internet Security Services to have device administrator permissions. In devices with Android OS 6.0, the Wipe command is not able to wipe the SD card automatically, due to permission consent query introduced by Android OS 6.0.

Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password from another computer or device.
On the Eastlink Internet Security Portal page, find the device you want to wipe from under your circle.
Click or tap the device icon. This brings up a window with basic details pertaining to that device.
Click or tap Finder.
In the Finder window, click or tap Wipe.
To wipe your device, click or tap the red Wipe button. Device wipe deletes everything on the device, including Eastlink Internet Security Services. Consequently, performing this action removes the device from the Eastlink Internet Security Portal.

How do I share my subscription with my family members or friends?

You can share your subscription with a friend or family member (sub-user) by inviting them into your Eastlink Internet Security Services group. This allows them to protect their devices using your available licenses. You can add up to 8 sub-users to your subscription.

Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password.
Once logged in, click/tap Add device. The Whose device do you want to protect? window appears.
Select Someone else's device, and click/tap Continue. The Invite a person window appears.
Fill in their name and email address in the relevant fields, and click/tap Send invitation. The person you add will receive an invitation email that allows them to protect their devices using your licenses.

Eastlink Internet Security Services members won't see the devices of other members. Only you can see all devices in your Eastlink Internet Security Portal.
Note: When you invite a family member or a friend to your Eastlink Internet Security Services group, they will have access to the licenses that you have, but they will only be able to manage the licenses under their account. You, as the organizer (main user), may release licenses if you wish to free them up.

How do I remove family members or friends from my Eastlink Internet Security Services Group?

Log in to the Eastlink Internet Security Portal with your account username and password.
On the Eastlink Internet Security Portal page, click on a sub-user that you want to remove from your My Eastlink Internet Security Services group. The sub-user is now selected and is in the centre.
Click on the sub-user again to bring up a window with the sub-user's basic details.
Click the Remove from my Eastlink Internet Security Services group link. The Remove from group window appears.
Click Remove.
