How Do I DIY Self-install TiVo

Learn how to self-install and set up your TiVo.

TiVo Remote Control

How Do I Pair My Remote Control

In order to use many of the TiVo features the remote control must be paired with the receiver it is used on, follow the directions below to properly pair your remote to it's TiVo Receiver, your TV, and/or your Audio Video Receiver.

To put the Remote Control in Programming mode:

  • Press the TiVo button on the remote
  • Select Menu from the home page
  • Choose Settings
  • Choose Remote CableCard & Devices
  • Choose Remote Control Setup
  • Then continue with the device specific directions below.

For pairing to the TiVo Receiver:

  • Choose Remote Control Pairing
  • Follow the on-screen instructions


For pairing to the TV:

  • Choose Set TV Power, Volume and Mute
  • Select your TV Brand and press OK
  • Take note of the Remote Control Codes highlighted in blue
  • Hold down the TV Pwr & TiVo buttons at the same time until the light at the top of the remote remains lit and enter one of the 4-digit remote codes
  • Press TV Pwr, if the TV doesn't turn off return to the previous step and try another 4-digit code
  • If none of the available codes work Click Here for instructions on how to search for the code for your device

 

For pairing to an Audio/Video Receiver:

  • Choose Set AV Volume and Mute
  • Select your Audio Receiver Brand and press OK
  • Take note of the Remote Control Codes highlighted in blue
  • Hold down the MUTE & TiVo buttons at the same time until the light at the top of the remote remains lit and enter one of the 4-digit remote codes
  • Press Mute, if the audio doesn't Mute return to the previous steps and try another 4-digit code
  • If none of the available codes work Click Here for instructions on how to search for the code for your device

How Do I Use Voice Control

Please Note:  The remote must be in RF mode (amber light flashes when keys are pressed) and paired with a specific receiver for Voice Control and Remote Finder to work. Voice Control does not work within apps such as YouTube and Netflix.

If the Voice Control Icon (Blue Mic) doesn’t appear on the TV screen when you press the voice button on the remote, it means that the remote is not paired with the receiver.  Not paired?  See How do I Pair My Remote

  • Press and hold the Blue Mic button
  • Speak naturally into the direction of the remote while continuing to hold down the Mic button
  • Tip: Speaking too loudly or too close to the mic can distort your voice
  • Release the Mic button when finished speaking

Voice control search is extremely powerful and intelligent. The following are a few examples of Voice Control terms/phrases:

  • "Bourne Movies"
  • "Tom Hanks Comedies"
  • "I'll be back" or "Live from New York"
  • "Basketball games on tonight"
  • "Channel 52"
  • "Show me Jays games"
  • "Watch the latest recording of Dr. Phil"
  • "Watch Infinity War on Netflix"
  • "Go to My Shows"
  • "Go to Settings"
  • "Turn on closed captions"

While watching recorded content:

  • "Go to the 24 minute mark"
  • "Start over"
  • "Skip 5 minutes"
  • "Back 30 seconds"
  • "Watch live TV"

How Do I Set Up Parental Controls

Parental Controls have to be set on each receiver individually.

  • Press the TiVo button on the remote
  • Select Menu from the Home Page
  • Select Settings
  • Select Parental & Purchase Controls
  • Scroll down and work through the available categories:

Parental Controls
Turn Parental Controls on to block TV shows and movies by rating or to lock specific channels. This PIN does not prevent PPV OR VIDEO ON DEMAND purchases

Hide Adult Content
Removes all adult shows from Search.  Hides the titles and descriptions of adult shows in the Guide and My Shows

Lock Channels
Require a PIN to watch certain channels

Purchase Controls
Require a PIN when purchasing TV shows or movies from Video on Demand or Pay-Per-View

Change PIN
Change the Parental Controls or Purchase Controls PIN (Must know current PIN to change a PIN)

Disable Parental Controls
Disable Parental Controls to **permanently **stop requiring a PIN to view blocked shows or channels

Set Rating Limits
When there’s a rating associated to a program, you can choose what rating on a program you’ll allow or not allow to be viewed (i.e. 14+, PG, G, etc). If there is no rating associated to a program you can choose to block all unrated programs or allow all unrated programs

How Do I Recover a Deleted Recording

If a recorded program has been accidentally deleted, follow the below steps to attempt to recover it.

  • Press the TiVO button on the remote
  • Select the My Shows folder from the home page
  • Scroll down to Recently Deleted Recordings and press OK
  • Press OK on the item you want to recover
  • Press OK to confirm
  • The program should be returned to your My Shows folder

How Do I Turn On/Off Accessibility Features

Closed captioning, descriptive audio, menu language, and screen reader features are available with the Tivo Service. Follow the steps below to access these services and settings.

  • Press the TiVo button on the remote
  • Select Menu from the Home Page
  • Select Settings
  • Select Accessibility
  • Select from the available options (shown below)
    • Subtitles and Closed Captioning
    • Menu Language
    • Language and Audio Description
    • Screen Reader

How Do I Set Up the Eastlink TiVo App

The mobile device and the TiVo DVR must both be connected to the same in-home WiFi network. The mobile device must be using WiFi, NOT a 3G, 4G, or LTE connection.

  • You must be registered for My Account. Click here to register
  • Download the free TiVo App from the App Store or Google Play

 

  • On the app login screen, enter your MyAccount login information
  • Select the TiVo receiver you want to use/control with the App
  • Ensure Set up in home streaming box remains checked
  • Check the box beside This app will only be used by members of the TiVo account holder's household, as required by the TiVo User Agreement

How Do I Search for Shows/Movies

Two easy ways to locate shows/movies on your TiVo System are through the Voice Control Search and the One Time Search

For a One Time Search:

  • Press the TiVo button on the remote
  • Select Search and press OK
  • Start entering letters/words until you find what you were looking for
  • Use the Directional Arrows on the remote to highlight your selection and display the available viewing and recording options

How Do I Set Up a OnePass Recording

TiVo OnePass  helps you manage your video content. OnePass locates episodes of your selected series from live TV, OnDemand, as well as Netflix and Prime Video (subscription is required) and will identify and record the episodes as they as they become available.

There are four main ways you can setup a OnePass:    

  • Use TiVo Voice Search to find your program then go to the Get This Show tab, select Create OnePass and press OK.
  • Select a show from the SmartBar at the bottom of the home screen then go to the Get This Show tab, select Create OnePass and press OK.
  • Locate and then select the program in the Channel Guide, press the OK button on the remote control, then select Create a OnePass for this series and press OK.
  • Press the TiVo button on the remote, select Search and press OK. Start entering letters/words until you find what you were looking for. Use the Directional Arrows on the remote to highlight your selection and press OK, then select Create a OnePass for this series and press OK.

Note: If you only wish to record a single show/episode you can select Record just this episode and press OK.

Once you have completed the above steps and have not opted to record just a single episode, you will be presented with the available recording options for the OnePass. The options available are:

  • Include: Recordings & Streaming Videos / Recordings Only / Streaming Videos Only
    • A subscription is required to select some content 
  • Start from: New Episodes Only / Season #
  • Rent or buy: Include / Don’t Include
  • Record: New & reruns / New Only / Everything
  • Channel: Channel #
  • Video Quality: Prefer HD
  • Keep at most: All recordings / # recordings
  • Keep until: Space needed / Until I delete
  • Start recording: On time / # minutes early (Max 25 Minutes)
  • Stop recording: On time / # minutes/hours longer (Max 3 Hours)

Once you have customized the above options to your preference you can either scroll up to the top of that screen and select Create OnePass with these options and press OK, or you can press the A button to accept/use these settings. 

Your OnePass recordings for this series will appear in the My Shows section within your TiVo menu.  For more detailed instructions about how to manage your recordings, please click here and refer to page 28.
